Menopause is a significant phase in a woman's life, often accompanied by a myriad of changes, including hormonal fluctuations that can impact the skin. I know that my skin has recently changed as I’m blessed with this full body transformation of perimenopause. During this time, it’s common for the skin to become drier, thinner, and more prone to irritation and inflammation. Calendula oil, derived from the marigold flower, has been used for centuries for its soothing and healing properties, making it a valuable ally for menopausal skin.
What is Calendula Oil?
Calendula oil is extracted from the bright orange or yellow petals of the calendula flower (Calendula officinalis). It is rich in anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antioxidant compounds, making it a versatile ingredient for skincare.
Benefits for Menopausal Skin:
Moisturization: Menopausal skin tends to become drier due to hormonal changes. Calendula oil is a natural emollient, helping to hydrate and nourish the skin.
Anti-inflammatory Properties: Calendula oil contains flavonoids and carotenoids, which have anti-inflammatory effects. This can help soothe irritated and inflamed skin, common concerns during menopause.
Antioxidant Protection: The antioxidants in calendula oil help protect the skin from free radical damage, which can accelerate skin aging. This is beneficial for mature skin during menopause.
Wound Healing: Calendula oil promotes the regeneration of skin tissue, making it beneficial for healing minor cuts, scrapes, and bruises, which may take longer to heal in menopausal skin.
Calming Effects: Menopause can be a stressful time, which can contribute to skin issues. Calendula oil has a calming effect on the skin and the mind, helping to reduce redness and overall irritation.
How to Use Calendula Oil:
Calendula oil can be used topically on the skin. The Calendula oil that we make here at Zeeta Body is already diluted in a carrier oil of either Almond or Coconut Oil, so it can be applied directly to the skin or mixed with your favorite cream for added moisturization. All of the facial oils, herbal body oils and scrubs that we craft for you contain calendula oil.
Precautions:
While calendula oil is generally safe for most people, some individuals may be allergic to marigold flowers. It's always best to do a patch test before using any new skincare product, especially if you tend to have sensitive skin.
Conclusion:
Calendula oil is a natural and effective option for managing menopausal skin concerns. Its moisturizing, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties make it a valuable addition to a menopausal skincare routine. By incorporating calendula oil into your skincare regimen, you can help keep your skin healthy, hydrated, and radiant during this transformative stage of life.
Christine,
I may be experiencing that menopause skin too. What face oil do you recommend? I’ve tried some natural face products, eczema creams, seen a dermatologist and an allergy doc. Something is definitely happening lol and I’m uncomfortable more days than not. Itchy, red patchy skin! Ugh. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks.
